SEGMENT SYNOPSIS
EPISODE #21: WATER
There's water, water everywhere this week on PMK when our hosts take the plunge into some very wet adventures.
Tyler starts us off when he participates in an emergency oil spill training exercise and discovers how response teams are trained to handle these disaster situations. First, he'll put on a special protective suit and a life jacket. Then, he'll jump onboard the Sea Truck boat, which is used to bring response equipment and personnel to the sight of an oil spill emergency.
Once out in the open water, Tyler learns how the floating broom devices, which are really mechanical barriers, are used to stop the flow of oil slicks and prevent any damage the oil might do to the water and to the marine life. When he cleans himself off, Tyler heads to the Welland Canal and learns the engineering secrets that allow all kinds of ships to adjust to the huge water level differences between two of the Great Lakes in order to navigate the locks safely. He'll get a chance to check out the super-sophisticated marine system that helps guide the big ships through the many narrow locks in the water system.
Elisha has a hair-raising adventure on the water when she takes a run down the rocky rapids in an ultra-modern and very high-tech raft. She'll discover why shooting through these dangerous rapids is such a popular sport, how to do it safely and even gets the chance to visit the factory that makes these indestructible vessels.
Charlie is also all wet this week when he gives us a few tips on how to win a race in the water.
