SEGMENT SYNOPSIS
EPISODE #13: FUN IN THE DESERT
PMK makes tracks in the desert this week as our hosts get down and dusty for some great adventures on the dunes. Vanessa goes all the way to the top of Sand Mountain in Nevada on a dune buggy and then straps on her very own sand board and lets loose. After a lesson with the expert, Vanessa heads down the largest sand dune in the United States reaching speeds of up to 50 miles per hour.
After she dusts herself off and catches her breath, she checks out the desert after dark joining a herpetologist on a snake expedition. She'll hunt down the slithering creatures, grab them, bag them and discover how they stay alive in the sizzling Arizona desert. Wearing a headlamp and sporting an array of equipment including tongs, hooks and tweezers, Vanessa captures the snake inside a clear plastic tube and then quickly puts it inside a cloth bag so it can continue breathing. She'll learn how to tell if a snake is poisonous and what to do when you come face-to-face with a dangerous reptile.
Tyler also takes to the sand but he's got both feet off the ground and into a very awesome sand vehicle when he takes a lesson in racing on the sand. He gets the chance to co-pilot a truck that's been modified for off-road desert racing and finds out how tricky this kind of driving can be. Hang on to your hat, Tyler!
Charlie also gets down and dusty this week and shows us how to survive in the hot desert climate. We'll learn how to make a meal out of the plants that can grow with virtually no water, how to avoid the dangerous creatures that come out at night and how to fall asleep under the desert sky.
